Baked Ziti

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  4. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
  5. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  6. Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes, then remove from heat.
  8. In a large bowl, combine the cooked ziti, ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  9. Add the meat sauce to the pasta mixture and stir well to combine.
  10. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and spread evenly.
  11. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese.
  12. Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
  13. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  14. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
